New Phi Phi O'Hara Single Shows Why She's So "Bitchy"

While I will be the first to admit RuPaul's Drag Race season four contestant Phi Phi O'Hara was far from my favorite on the reality competition show, she had a bit of a rivalry with my girl Sharon Needles, the 28-year-old Texas native is certainly showcasing her true talents and shutting down her haters with the release of her debut single and video, "Bitchy", quieting even me in the process.

Since her time ended on Drag Race, coming in second or third to the Party City queen, O'Hara has been speaking of the possible release of an album of original material. Contestants have been releasing music following their television debuts in hopes of extending their 15 minutes of fame (ex. Manila Luzon, Pandora Boxx, Mimi Imfurst, Raja, Latrice Royale, Courtney Act, Bianca Del Rio, etc.), but only a handful can truly be taken seriously. There's a reason drag queens lip sync. Anyway, Phi Phi O'Hara can be added to the successful list.

"Bitchy" is not the typical dance song from a Drag Race contestant, there's some depth underneath the loud and exciting pop/rock production. From the opening verse, O'Hara effortlessly commands attention as she sings of not caring about other's views of her personality. One thing we can take away from the new effort is O'Hara aka Jaremi Carey can sing. She has the vocal abilities to pull off such an attitude-filled jam that reaches different levels with every note.

Her abrasive personality may have turned off many people, to be honest, editing made it even worse, but the performer seems to just brush off the insults. "You can call me bitchy, but I get what I want, you can call me pushy, but I'm here and you're not" she sings on the chorus that brings back the sound of the mid-00s female rockers to mind. All in all, it's a pretty solid release and building buzz to a full album in the near future.

The accompanying four-minute music video, which premiered exclusively on NewNowNext, deserves praise as well. While sporting numerous, gorgeous looks, O'Hara proves she can certainly work a camera and get a little acting practice in the process. Maybe my thoughts on Miss Phi Phi will change following her "Bitchy" release. Thoughts?
